We’re fast approaching the final fling (for the time being) of North Hop which is taking place in Aberdeen on Easter weekend. I’ve enjoyed my time so far being the Highlands Brand Ambassador, having attended both the bigger festivals and intimate tasting events right from the beginning of the North Hop journey. You may have seen on my social media platforms that I was thwarted on important North Hop business at the beginning of the month, due to the #beastfromtheeast stopping us getting a sneak peek of what Caorunn are planning for #northhopabz. However, you can still read what cocktails and serves the Caorunn crew are planning on the North Hop blog … and while you’re at it, why not buy your tickets now, as they are selling fast!
You can see the end of my post for details on a little giveaway of tickets I am running on my Instagram for the Friday night session, but for now, take a look at my top picks for North Hop Aberdeen!
ABERDEEN ETSY MARKET POP-UP
I do love finding new crafters and makers to buy from, so I will be heading to chat to the locals who make up the Aberdeen Etsy team.
I’ve been following one of them – Juniper Press for a little while on Instagram, so I’m delighted that I’ll be able to meet Laura in person, and be able to check out the work she’s done on styling the North Hop Bar, which leads me nicely onto….
THE DEBUT OF THE NORTH HOP BAR
The North Hop Bar has sealed some great brands for it’s debut, and I’ll be making a beeline to sample Berry Bros & Rudd’s newest release London Dry Gin, accompanied with one of LAMB & WATT’s tonic water selection. Of course, I can’t plan everything to try which is just as well, because local mixologists Adrian Forde-Beggs and Connor Knowles will be shaking up an amazing selection of cocktails using 5 of the Berry Bros & Rudd’s spirits portfolio from around the globe. I’ll also be keeping my eyes peeled for something visually spectacular from The Edinburgh Ice Company!
REVISITING SOME OLD FRIENDS
It’s not just about the new kids on the block though, there’s the North Hop favourites that can’t be missed at the final fling … namely Thistly Cross for their delicious cider (the tasty elderflower takes some beating!), Caorunn (one of my favourite gins) for a cheeky Caorunn cocktail, and local favourite Melt for a cheese toastie!
NEW FOODIE FLAVOUR COMBOS
Wild Fig is killing the Instagram game with their foodie snaps, and at the #northhopabz final fling they are serving up a Beer Fondue Mac and cheese, with a choice of toppings including peat smoked haddock, Roquefort crumble, braised leeks and Portobello mushrooms, pancetta and Parma ham crumble. Which one would you choose? If cheese isn’t your bag, then what about veggie/vegan buddha bowls from new street food vendor The Liberty Kitchen or some fresh miso soup and gyozas from Harajuku Kitchen?
