As well as being the title of a 90s dance song (no need to thank me for reminding you!), Encore Une Fois is another one of newly opened bars and restaurants in Inverness. Replacing what seemed a dark and dingy club (according to my hairdresser!) it already seems to be building quite a reputation for a good time if you’re looking for food or drinks close to the river.
This was actually my second lunchtime visit (the previous was a couple of weeks prior) which was a very late lunch after a gym and swim session. Neither of us had had anything to eat and despite Mr B offering his food for photos (yes I am one of those annoying people.. all for the purposes of the blog though!) I was just too hungry and resolved to come back again for the purposes of this post!
However this time my companion was my buddy and Let’s Bake co-host Kirsty who had been to Encore for drinks previously, but had not tried the food. So on one Thursday lunchtime in February, we met for a lunch. I really like the layout of the place – the tables are well spaced out and I can imagine that it will have a nice atmosphere during the evenings.
While I wasn’t having to rush back to the office (it was a non-working day for me) I’m always conscious of how feasible it is to be served and have time to enjoy your dish without having to hurry back to work. For this reason, we both chose to have sandwiches which were accompanied by homemade chips and slaw. The all day menu is varied, with soups, nachos, and some lovely sounding main courses made with local produce.
Kirsty’s sandwich (which I had tried the first time round and really enjoyed) was filled with haddock goujons and mushy peas. I also remembered tasting mini gherkins too which gave the sandwich a nicely tangy flavour.
My sandwich was a twist on the BLT, as it also contained chicken and cheese. It was good and solidly constructed, though some kind of nice tangy tomato chutney could give it a depth of flavour instead of using mayonnaise.
We were served very promptly and had time to eat and catch up comfortably well within the hour. During my first visit I spoke to the manager and he seemed to have been pleased with the response from the locals – especially considering trade seemed to be busy enough during the usual dip in January where everyone is trying to lose weight and save money!
We’d like to return for evening dinner and drinks to see what the atmosphere is like but we were impressed with Encore and would recommend it as a comfortable way to spend your lunchtime.
I received no incentive for this review.
