Local Lunch: Blend Tea and Coffee Merchants

December 21, 2015 by Susan Leave a Comment

We’ve used Blend Tea & Coffee Merchants for hosting Let’s Bake Inverness on a number of occasions, but each time I’ve tried to pop in for lunch, there’s been a lack of available seating. However, Mr B and I were fortunate enough to walk in for a table a couple of weeks ago on our day off!

With space to seat just over 20, Blend definitely fits the description “small and perfectly formed” as there are lots of fun features to the cafe. Art for sale on the walls, coffee and tea blends for sale, and even a plentiful supply of board games (although that can create extra mess, as we walked in a family were leaving, a small child quite happily emptied the bag of scrabble tiles all over the floor – with not even an apology to the staff from the parents as they were walking out…how rude!)

We perused the menu at the counter. I had already spied the flavour of the day’s soup (sweet potato and lentil) so I had already made a decision to have that, but then Mr B pointed out the lunch deal, which was the soup, a filled bagel (of which they had lots of choices, on seperate menus for vegetarians and for non-veggies) and the choice of a tea, coffee or juice for £7.50!

Mr B couldn’t resist the lure of the seasonal festive roast dinner bagel, which had all the classic elements in some form; chicken, stuffing, cranberry sauce, hash brown and thick gravy all piled into a seeded bagel.

Even though I was sorely tempted, I went for the spice factor and tried the BBQ Chicken Melt bagel, which had a delicious kick to it in the form of cajun spices mixed in with the chicken, cheese and a hash brown!

Coupled with a huge bowl of soup, this was certainly enough to keep us sustained for the whole afternoon!IMG_3885

I would have loved to have had room for one of their seasonal Christmas drinks (their seasonal drinks change on a very regular basis), but I’m hoping to pop in this week instead to try their ginger hot chocolate or their festive smoothie, or on another day off to sample Blend’s brunch menu

Verdict: A well priced and filling lunch with lots of tasty bagel options – we’ll definitely be back (if we can get a table!)

I received no incentive for this review.

  • YOU ARE INVITED 🎭 💃 🎞 // My preview of the March-June programme of theatre, dance, film and family events at @lythartscentre is now up on the blog. We love our local arts centre (the most northerly on the UK mainland) and if you’re in Caithness, you should have a copy of the programme winging its way through your letterbox this week! Thanks to Co-directors @tom_2mt and @cjmmountford12 for giving me a sneak peek at what’s coming up in the next few months! #lythartscentre #performingarts #caithness #nc500

  • I think I’ve found the best kept secret in Inverness - authentic, fresh Chinese food at the Scottish Highlands & Islands and Moray Chinese Association! Soups, rice dishes, dim sum and cloud like char Sui buns - served at lunchtimes only. Had to trawl through @msthain grid to remind myself of it’s existence a while back after talking about with @northhopmichelle . Blog post link in profile now! #inverness #highland #chopsticks #chinesefood #shimca #noodles #dimsum 🇨🇳
  • I used to run a baking club in Inverness until we moved up to Caithness in 2017. Now I’m going to give it a go up here - bakers of Caithness, join me for some home-baked goods and baking chat - give @caithnessbakingclub a follow on here and on Facebook, and share away! 🍰
  • Found my new favourite dish - spiced lamb with dates and red lentils from @georgiepuddingnpie ‘Stirring Slowly’ - With only 25 mins of easy prep and 2 hours in the oven, you have a stew with delicous Moroccan flavours. Already looking forward to having the leftovers with some harissa roasted veg later in the week! #slowsunday #slowcooked
  • Caithness is awful. Just shockingly bad. Don’t bother visiting.
