After a few weeks of being in a bit of limbo, last Sunday we finally confirmed that we are moving to Inverness! Mr B is now a certified Rev, and his new job will start in March. So, as we have a new house, we have chosen colours of paint and carpet, bought swathes of new furniture and generally been googling different aspects of the Highlands daily (that’s just me). We’ve had to become relative experts in home furnishing in what we want to choose for furniture and cushions, lighting, storage – everything. Definite compromises and interesting ‘discussions’ have occurred!:-)
Some facts about Inverness and the surrounding Highlands:
It is the fastest growing city in Europe!
In a recent survey (2009), it was the 5th ‘happiest’ city in the UK
Amy Pond (ex Dr Who character) is from Inverness (so that’s what Invernesians sound like, a quite soft and lilty accent!)
Inverness looks fairly close to the most northern coast of Scotland, but it would still take you almost 2hrs 40 minutes to drive the 119 miles to John O’Groats!
I have bought maps, books and walking guides, so we can have exciting days exploring Inverness and it’s surroundings. Amongst other things I have on my list to do:
Dolphin spotting at Chanonry Point (Moray Firth)
Visiting beaches along the Beauly and Moray Firth
Going over the Kessock Bridge to explore other places on the Black Isle
Walking up Craig Phadrig – a 240m high hill (which is pretty convenient – our garden backs onto the path to get to the top!)
Learn a little Gaelic – At the moment I know one word – which is hello!
Find some Highland bloggers/baking/photography clubs
Possibly join the screenprinting studio
As well as the usual ‘sort out the house’ and ‘get a job’….
