If 2011 was the year of planning (wedding, and relocation to Scotland) I think that 2012 is going to be formally known in the Barrie household as the year of island hopping! Our holidays this year are going to be on Bute (where Mr B’s parental live), and Arran (where Mr B grew up until he was 12) which are both on the west coast of Scotland, and Sardinia (I like to think that we are continuing our little tour of Italian islands after we had our Sicilian honeymoon last year) for our 1st wedding anniversary.
• There is no need to set an alarm – bliss!
- We can forget about work/emails/jobs to be done
• There is nothing that needs to get done or be organised – we can decide on the day what we feel like doing (which on our honeymoon meant 10 days reading on the beach/taking a dip in the sea and 2 days doing touristy/sightseeing trips)
• If we’re cooking for ourselves meals can be done leisurely and enjoyed, if we’re on ‘proper holiday’ – no cooking, and no washing up!
This weekend we’re off to Bute for 5 days. I’m hoping to do some seal spotting, lots of walking, lots of sitting in cafes (and maybe a little cake eating) and some photo-taking. Most of all I’m looking forward to just chilling with Mr B and also seeing the in-laws, it’s been a fairly hectic two weeks in which we’ve hardly seen each other due to lots of evening things he has to go to. So lots of reading, and playing of Settlers, Dutch Blitz and Bananagrams to come!
