We had done lots on our first day in Washington, so our main task for our second day was simple (but time consuming): take in the monuments, musuems and memorials of the National Mall! The National Mall is around 2.5 miles long, so it really can take a couple of days if you visit a few of the museums too.
We decided to visit just one museum – the Museum of the American Indian, as it was an element of history that both of us knew only a little about. I enjoyed looking at the different craft items particularly that often referenced happenings or situations in their crafting.
Here are a few of the memorials and monuments found down the National Mall:
We also couldn’t leave Washington DC without at least a glimpse of the White House – it really was just that due to the extra fences put in place to deter security breaches.
Here’s a few other snaps that I spotted:
The local university obviously felt that George Washington should get into the Halloween spirit!
We had a bit of time to kill before our evening plans, so we went to the International Spy Museum. As well as the museum, we also took part in a spy mission which was a bit of fun. They had some great exhibits – a lot of them were interactive.
Our very last activity in Washington DC was the NBA Basketball game between the Washington Wizards and the Milwaukee Bucks. It was the season opener so there was a great busy atmosphere and a real friendly fun thing to be at. We also both got goosebumps when the national anthem was sung, and when a member of the armed forces was welcomed to the game.
And that was the end of our two week trip! I think that Mr B’s appetite for the US has been seriously whetted – the only thing to decide would be where next?!
