…Using only a stone, blackboard paint and chalk pens!
Tonight is a crafty night. Not only am I baking marmalade and sultana oat cookies (but I’ve varied the recipe to suit what I have in the cupboards)…
I’ve also finally used my chalk pens for the their first proper project. After I smashed our spoon rest a few months ago I decided that I would try and construct my own. When we went to Ettrick Bay on Bute a few weekends ago I found the perfect stone to be the spoon rest. Fast forward to April 2nd and on the train tonight I started thinking how I could use the chalk pens purchased a month ago. So here goes:
1. I drew my outline and painted with blackboard paint. I did nearly decide to paint the space round the spoon, but I’m glad with what I went with. (Note, that is Mr B in the background, looking carefully at a nice two tier cake in one of the newspaper supplements we got this weekend)
2. While the blackboard paint took about 30 mins to dry, I had a go at using the chalk pens on some old papers, trying to get the sizing of the letters about right. I was SO tempted instead of writing ‘spoon rest’ to write ‘spoon me’ on the stone but I chickened out.
3. When the blackboard paint was dry, I just drew the letters on! Easy. I like the pens, they are really simple to use but I have a bit of practice to go to make my letters look anything less than awkward. However, I’m very happy with my first attempt.
PS – I’m aware that in the below slideshow you can also see the cookie pics again. Any tips on how I can put in two separate slide shows so that I don’t get duplicate pictures?
