… or in other words, a failed swiss roll with more cracks than a badly plastered ceiling.
I decided that following the first week of GBBO, I would attempt a swiss roll. My sponge was light, my super speedy summerberry jam was ready for spreading and the cream was whipped. And then I panicked. I tried to do things to quickly (including taking pictures as I went)
Hastily taking a picture before smoothing the whipped cream out with a palatte knife
I can’t recall having many baking disasters (the only one recently was when I put a cake in the oven only to turn round to find the eggs on the kitchen work top – that mix went straight in the bin) and I don’t think I can call this a disaster, because it still tastes amazing! However I am under no illusions – it’s not elegant enough to be called a swiss roll, so a concertina roulade it is!
And even though I won’t be crowned star baker for my swiss roll efforts, I can still whip up a good batch of mini scones!
