John O’Groats Book Festival preview

March 20, 2019 by Susan Barrie 1 Comment

A Caithness celebration of books and writing will present some of the UK’s top authors with its return in 2019. Last year’s inaugural John O’Groats Book Festival was so popular, that this year’s festival will span three days!

This year, from the 5th – 7th April, the village (incorrectly) known as the most northerly point on the UK mainland will host all manner of famous names in the book world, as well as showcasing the work of local writers.

The John O’Groats Book Festival will feature poet, novelist and Scots writer James Robertson, and singer-songwriter, author, poet and British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Scotland award-winning actress Gerda Stevenson.
Bella Bathurst – a journalist, photographer and author of various non-fiction books – will also be a guest, as will artist and illustrator Kate Leiper.
The final day will celebrate local and regional writers, including James Miller and Gail Brown (who blogs over at Wellies on the School Run).

Children will be well entertained, with the festival kicking off with special lessons in local primary schools, and a special workshop facilitated by illustrator Kate Leiper at Lyth Arts Centre.

The Seaview Hotel plays host for the launch event and the Saturday afternoon programme, which features lighthouses, Quines (Doric word for women) and Scottish History as presentation topics.

Saturday evening and Sunday morning (Lyth Arts Centre) both feature panel discussions, before the final Highland Fling event. Tour various venues around John O’Groats to see various writers take to the stage!

Tickets for John O’Groats Book Festival can be purchased from the Seaview Hotel, (and at Lyth Arts Centre for events taking place there).

This is not a paid for/sponsored post – I’m just keen to share some of the events and happenings going on in Caithness! Many thanks to the JOG Book Festival for providing the information for me to write this post.
