Mr B takes his day off on a Friday while I’m not working, so we are trying to get out and about to explore in and around Inverness. Last Friday we looked at my book of walks and decided to head over the Kessock Bridge and onto the Black Isle (neither black nor an island, for those unfamiliar with the Highlands). We went to Cromarty which is on the north-eastern tip of the peninsula.
We chose to start off with a walk, then reward ourselves with a nice lunch. We opted for the Cromarty Explorer walk which is about 4 miles, which was a circular walk with one steep ascent of 140 metres to South Sutor viewpoint. We did it in about 90 minutes and it did help that the promise of a warm restaurant and lunch were our incentives to keep up a good pace, especially when it started raining!
As we found our way back into Cromarty we headed towards Sutor Creek – where we shared a starter of Mussels flavoured with spring onions, chilli, ginger and cream. Mr B then followed this up with a hefty venison burger (topped with a poached egg!) and I had a pizza topped with crayfish, spicy sausage, ricotta and coriander. All the dishes were flavoured excellently and were good value. With drinks and coffee lunch came to just over £30. Fortunately I was able to take my leftover pizza home with me!
We then explored the village and found a wee bakery where we bought some oatcakes and also a dutch cheese shop where we picked up some good looking mature cheese! We haven’t got around to trying it but it looks yummy!
[…] B and I have visited Cromarty before (I blogged about it here, just when we had moved to Inverness) and a few times since, but yesterday I took my friend Maari […]
