It’s the end of January and while I thought I would have a mini-break from blogging, it’s somehow ended up being a whole month! The busyness of Christmas and new year, coupled with a January where I was out of my usual routine (working a different pattern to accommodate some pre-arrangedĀ plans) and fouling foul of a horrible stomach bug forĀ a few days meant that the year has got off to a somewhat subdued start, although there have been a few highlights.
I got a lovely new fixed lens for my DSLR so have taken opportunities where I can to get some snaps. As well as getting this portrait of the pooch, we were near Stirling for Christmas and then in Perthshire the following week.
These loch shots were taken in St Fillans, where it was a beautiful clear and crisp day. Only the following day did we get a good dump of snow, so our drive home to Inverness was full of snowy scenes.
I hardly baked over the festive/ny period, but used up some leftover pannettone as per this Ren Behan recipe for nutella bread and butter pudding. This may be my new favourite dessert in the winter months!
Of course now that we are approaching the end of January, the days are starting to get noticeably longer. I now see a sunrise on the way to work and am just about home by the time the sun sets.
The weather here has been unseasonably warm, on some days the temperatures have even managed to climb into double figures! So of course, these are great reasonsĀ to sample some Italian style gelato fromĀ Inverness’s new gelateria andĀ cannoli bar.Ā Ā As well as the classic flavours on offer, there was a Haggis and Whisky, and Smoked Vanilla. One place we’ll definitely be heading to again!
How’s your January been?
