Review: Fresh Flowers from Tesco

March 24, 2016 by Susan Leave a Comment

One thing that I don’t think very often to have in the house are fresh flowers. I’m not a big fan of big bouquets or posys, favouring simple and classic arrangements of one type of bloom over elaborate displays. This was even the case on our wedding day 4.5 years ago – although you’ll see amongst the roses a Scottish thistle in Mr B’s buttonhole!

When I was invited by Tesco Orchard to take part in their Fresh Flowers campaign, I was very pleased to take part! All of Tesco’s stores have some kind of flower or plant display, often very close to the entrance, so it was a good reminder every time I went to Tesco that I had some flowers to buy with the voucher provided. One of the bigger stores in Inverness has a huge display!

We’re off to the Netherlands in the summer, so what better to enthuse for our journey than a bunch of bright tulips? I bought a large bunch of yellow stems for £6 (21 stems) and then Mr B kindly also bought me a bunch of pink ones for £3 (9 stems). The larger bunch had a “freshness guarantee” for up to 7 days. Don’t they look fabulous?

4 days in and the yellow tulips were going strong, heads opening just a bit and standing tall (I remembered on Day 7 that my friend Claire had blogged a top tip about dropping a 1p piece in the water – I’m no scientist but I wonder if the copper oxidises in the water to keeps tulips standing tall?). A couple of the pink ones were definitely on the droopy side, so these were plucked out of the vase and relegated to the compost bin. You can see below that the rest are still in fine form (and have lasted almost two weeks!)

I was impressed by the range and quality of flowers bought from Tesco. I was provided with vouchers to purchase flowers of my choosing.

All opinions and photography are my own.
