Bank holiday brunch, bowling, bananagrams and baking

As I type only two of these things have happened today… This morning I went for a swim in my efforts to swim a mile a week. This morning I must have been motivated by the promise of impending salmon for breakfast as I did my 26 lengths quicker than usual. (or more likely it was the mental competition I created in my head with the swimmer in the next lane – he set a good pace which challenged me and meant that I concentrated on my front crawl breathing more). Normally I can swim fast-ish, but I made a particular effort to do a majority of front crawl lengths, rather than breast stroke. on returning home Mr B cooked brunch – delicious salmon and scrambled eggs.
After a bit of faffing, we drove over to Dunfermline for a couple of games of bowling. I thought I might be in luck for a win as Mr B hadnt been bowling for at least 5 years, alas I was well and truly beaten – Mr B’s score of 235 trounced my 154 🙁

Now we’re home and I’m angling for a game of bananagrams. I may also bake some scones – though a health(ier) version with reduced sugar jam and low fat creme fraiche. Pictures will be posted later (if they are successful!)

  • YOU ARE INVITED 🎭 💃 🎞 // My preview of the March-June programme of theatre, dance, film and family events at @lythartscentre is now up on the blog. We love our local arts centre (the most northerly on the UK mainland) and if you’re in Caithness, you should have a copy of the programme winging its way through your letterbox this week! Thanks to Co-directors @tom_2mt and @cjmmountford12 for giving me a sneak peek at what’s coming up in the next few months! #lythartscentre #performingarts #caithness #nc500

  • I think I’ve found the best kept secret in Inverness - authentic, fresh Chinese food at the Scottish Highlands & Islands and Moray Chinese Association! Soups, rice dishes, dim sum and cloud like char Sui buns - served at lunchtimes only. Had to trawl through @msthain grid to remind myself of it’s existence a while back after talking about with @northhopmichelle . Blog post link in profile now! #inverness #highland #chopsticks #chinesefood #shimca #noodles #dimsum 🇨🇳
  • I used to run a baking club in Inverness until we moved up to Caithness in 2017. Now I’m going to give it a go up here - bakers of Caithness, join me for some home-baked goods and baking chat - give @caithnessbakingclub a follow on here and on Facebook, and share away! 🍰
  • Found my new favourite dish - spiced lamb with dates and red lentils from @georgiepuddingnpie ‘Stirring Slowly’ - With only 25 mins of easy prep and 2 hours in the oven, you have a stew with delicous Moroccan flavours. Already looking forward to having the leftovers with some harissa roasted veg later in the week! #slowsunday #slowcooked
  • Caithness is awful. Just shockingly bad. Don’t bother visiting.
