Today, I am supporting Scotland in their first match against Japan at the Rugby World Cup. This might seem strange to some if you don’t already know that my husband is Scottish (and I’m English – very important when in sporting situations!). Rugby is one of a few sources of marital tension (along with navigating in the car and competing against each other at Settlers of Catan) for me and Mr B – although we are friends after the game of course! Rugby is a sport that we both love to watch, especially when England play Scotland in the 6 Nations each spring for obvious reasons! Mr B is a little jealous that this weekend I will actually be down in Twickenham (though not to see the rugby!) so will get to enjoy the rugby atmosphere around South West London.
Kitbag (via the fabulous Joe Blogs Network) were kind enough to send me a rugby kit shirt of my choice, and after a bit of discussion between Mr B and I, I chose a Scotland shirt for Mr B to wear (as he would be much more likely to get more wear out of it than me!) in support of the nation in which we live.
So how will we be supporting Scotland in their first matches, and hopefully all the way to the final? We might choose to get in a bit of rugby ourselves, in our new kit…
…and sing Flower of Scotland (even though the words aren’t particularly kind to the English… we’ll gloss over that for now!)
…and of course eat some classic Scottish food! (Well, kind of, these homemade Moroccan vegetarian haggis pasties are a bit of a healthier hybrid choice than the pies and snacks you might get at the stadium stands! You can find the recipe from MacSweens here.)
Are you a rugby fan? How will you be celebrating the Rugby World Cup?
Many thanks to Kitbag for sending me a complimentary rugby kit shirt for the purposes of this blog post.
