(Apologies in advance, I forgot my camera so this post will only feature a few instagrammed pics)
Last Friday Mr B and I headed into town for ‘Beats, Beer and Cheese’ at Velocity (see here for my opinion of Velocity as a cafe).
You might remember that I attended a gin tasting event in April? This second event was organised again by the lovely Michelle of North Hop, as a taster event leading up to the long awaited (in our household anyway!) North Hop Festival which will be held in Inverness at the end of August.
Now gin is definitely my tipple of taste, but I was interested to see what I would make of the beers on offer! And of course Mr B was keen on tasting some Scottish ale. And we both adore cheese, and music. So it really was set to be a pretty good evening before we set in the door!
Al from Windswept Craft Brewery was on hand providing all the knowledge of the 6 (I think!) ales we tasted, and Jon from the Cromarty Cheese House did a great job in a wide range of dutch cheeses which paired well with the flavours of ales.
As suspected, I liked the lighter, ‘hoppier’ ales (Blonde, and APA) whilst Mr B was a big fan of Typhoon.
As for cheese, the goats cheese flavoured with nettles and garlic was pretty epic for both of us, as well as the ‘Old Goat’!
Needless to say that we had a great evening, if cheese and beer wasn’t enough then we also had a craft beer cocktail on arrival featuring my new favourite gin, Caorunn – and also a absolutely delicious beer and cocoa flavoured cupcake courtesy of Cupcake Creations. I’m still trying to work out how the icing is just SO smooth! We enjoyed the tunes provided by AClockworkDJ also, it really was a great taster event and has made us even more keen to attend the main festival in August!
