Upon arrival at Fort Augustus, we had a wander around the town before we checked into our B&B at Rose Cottage, which was directly on the Great Glen Way route. Karen, our host, provided a warm welcome, a well sized room and a generous breakfast and packed lunch to send us on our way.
Walk: 8 miles (3.5 hours) from Fort Augustus to Invermoriston
Terrain: undulating with a very steep climb to start. Both of us found this a bit hard on the calves as on previous days we’d warmed up before doing any ascents.
Weather Watch: Dry (with threats of rain that never came!)
Sights: great views over a cloudy Loch Ness.
Unwelcome diversion of the day: down a steep, slippery diversion,we had to choose our steps wisely to avoid the mud seeping into our trainers!
(I obviously forgot to take many photos on this day – there had obviously been a lot of tree felling going on previously, and the colours of the logs were bright against the stark grey clouds of the day!)
