With all that comes with planning a house move, we are SO ready for a holiday. After initially thinking that we should head overseas for some sun, the thought of researching holiday destinations on top of all we are doing to furnish a new house seemed a step too far (and researching holidays is one of my favourite things to do, so you can tell I have reached my limit of things to organise!). We decided to have a proper chilled out break in the Scottish homeland. I’m calling this our ‘triple A’ holiday as our aim is to have a total recharge of batteries!
First off we’re heading to Aberdeen for a few nights. Our hotel has a pool and is near to Hazelhead Park, and is a good walk to the centre of the Granite city. We’re planning to head to the Belmont Filmhouse for some cinema action, maybe even do a little Christmas shopping while we have access to the big chains, and I’ve been populating a little list of foodie stops that are rated highly by locals (although, I must also factor in a trip to Foodstory – one of my absolute faves!
Next up on the triple A itinerary, we have booked a cute little distillery cottage near to Aberlour, in the heart of Speyside, complete with log burner, and comfy leather sofas to curl up on with our books and DVDs during the autumnal chilly evenings. We’re right on the doorstep of the Speyside Way and a short drive away from the coast, so some walking is definitely on the cards, as well as possibly a round of golf and a Glenfiddich distillery tour for Mr B.I’m hoping to get some great shots of the autumn leaves, they were wonderful last year.
Last year I took the fantastic Caorunn Distillery tour (which a couple of weeks ago won Scottish Gin Destination of the year at the Scottish Gin awards) so maybe I might just take another trip over over to their bothy gift shop! Read my post on the Caorunn Distillery Tour here.
We’ll mostly be doing self catering during this week – buying locally in Aberlour, but one place we will definitely be heading to for my belated birthday meal is the Copper Dog Pub in Craigellachie. They source all their key ingredients within a 50 mile radius, ensuring excellent farm to fork freshness. From looking at their Instagram I’m anticipating a good meal there, especially if we walk the full 6 miles there from our cottage to work up an appetite. I think we’ll also both be happy with selecting a drink or two from their well stocked bar!
The last leg of our ‘triple A’ holiday is a very familiar destination to us – we’re heading to Aviemore for North Hop! I have already produced an insiders guide to making a weekend of it (just click on the image below) and we’ve got a couple of days afterwards to enjoy the MacDonald resort facilities. We may even treat ourselves to a beauty treatment on site to bring the holiday to a relaxing close.
Keep an eye on my Instagram for #TripleAScot pics, and let me know any recommendations I may have missed!
