I’ve really found myself increasing my investment in blogging this year, especially in the last couple of months. Long may it continue!
My original reasons for starting the blog almost 3 years ago were to keep friends in touch with us when we moved from London to Fife. That’s still the intention, but since moving to Inverness 18 months ago I’ve found that I’ve become more confident in knowing what I like writing about (and an added bonus is having more readers and followers to interact with) and being able to enjoy developing my writing style. Obviously this will change as I go through life but I love my little niche of being a Highland and foodie/lifestyle blogger!
Spending more time reading other blogs, chatting with other bloggers/foodies and pinning on Pinterest to develop my blogging skills and photography expertise have been really beneficial to me. At the moment I am working full time, but in December I go down to working 3 days a week (woohoo!! :-)), which I hope will give me a little breathing space to invest more time in the blog, which I’m very aware that most people do not have, often holding down full-time family and job commitments before having time to involve themselves in blogging.
Technically speaking, I’ve being considering plunging into the commitment of self-hosting my own blog, but for the moment, I’ve found a theme that I find accessible and easily readable, so I’m holding off on self-hosting for the time being. I’ve purchased loads of space so I don’t skimp on photos when publishing a post. The very kind Kirsty from Ever so Sweet (and co-organiser of Let’s Bake Inverness) designed a wonderful header logo for me which I love and I think suits me very well – not too flashy, but simple and gets across my niche of being a highland blogger! My next job is to redo my blog-roll. I still read all of the blogs that are on the current list but there are a lot of new blogs to add!
I’ll still be posting about all the things that matter to me (baking and highland adventures being the primary candidates) but October will bring a an exciting opportunity as we are heading to the US! We’re going on a two week trip which will take in Chicago, Boston, New York and Washington DC. So in the next couple of weeks I’ll be sharing a bit more information about each location and what we are looking forward to. If you have any tips of what to see, do, eat or drink, do leave a comment or drop me (@susan_barrie) a tweet!
