We had brilliant sunshine for our second day in Chicago, which was perfect for our day of walking around the Wicker Park and Lincoln Park areas.
We did some shopping and bought a couple of mementos – a comfy Chicago Bears (American Football) jumper, which is going to see me through the cold Inverness winter, and also a framed hand cut vinyl record which shows the Chicago skyline. We love it and it’s already on our lounge wall.
This was the day that we spied lots of street art (posted on Monday), Wicker Park is a very creative artsy area with lots of vintage shops and record stores. After a good wander lasting a couple of hours, and a slice of pie at Bang Bang Pie Shop, we hopped on the El over to Lincoln Park.
Lincoln Park has its own free zoo, with lots of animals exhibited – however, as it was off season, a few of these were away on their own vacation while their habitats were getting a sprucing up. We were particularly disappointed to miss the polar bear, but we did catch a few cool snaps with the long lens..
It was the most spectacular day, total blue sky and fresh without being cold. The park was enjoying some beautiful colours on the trees and we got some great views of the city!
We also caught this little guy feasting on some leftover fries!
By this point we were getting a little hungry ourselves so we went back into town to have dinner at Little Goat diner – which was possibly the best meal of our holiday! The owner is Stephanie Izard, who was the first female winner of Top Chef (equivalent to Masterchef in the UK). We shared the best pulled pork nachos EVER, enjoyed our own entrees (I had fish tacos), and sampled just a little of their desserts. I wish I had taken photos to share you as everything was just delicious.
Come back tomorrow for a quick post showing you views from the 94th floor of the John Hancock Centre!
