New York is our third stop of of our big holiday. In our first week we will be staying in Chicago and Boston, and the start of our second week sees us starting our Amtrak journey south down the east coast (which by the way, is fantastic value – each leg of our Boston-NYC-Washington DC trip worked out at only $25 dollars per person, and we’ve been told that Amtrak is a fantastic way to see the changing landscape of the US).
We have three nights in NYC and are staying in this airbnb rental in Williamsburg. It looks a really quirky place to stay in. We originally booked another rental but had received a few recent reviews which had all commented on the lack of cleanliness of the apartment, so decided to look for another rental. Obviously one persons level of cleanliness can be different to anothers, but when there are a few people saying the same thing then I think we made a good decision. We lost a booking fee of about £30 which is nothing to write home about, and actually the new apartment is slightly better placed for access on the subway into Manhattan, so we’re pleased with how it’s worked out! We’re also looking forward to exploring Williamsburg, apparently quite a cool hipster neighbourhood (though we are anything but hipster, I’m not sure how we will fit in!)

Particular things we want to do are:
Walk the Highline – a public park built on a historic freight rail line, over on the west side of Manhatten (http://www.thehighline.org/visit)
See the views of Manhattan and the Empire State Building from Top of the Rock – we’ll just have to make a decision about what time of day to visit! We’ve also got some good walking routes mentioned in our guidebook which should see us walking lots around Manhattan
Catch a Broadway show – we’re going to see what’s available on the via the TKTS booths
We’re quite keen on going to at least one art gallery on our trip. Mr B has mentioned MOMA, while I’m gunning for the Guggenheim..
And you can’t visit NYC without at least getting a glimpse of the Statue of Liberty. My (and a top tip from so many others!) favourite way is to catch the free Staten Island ferry and get some photos from there.
What are your New York must-dos?
