Last month, I took an early train to Newtonmore for a half day learning all about portrait photography (as part of a Cairngorms Learning Partnership Craft and Celebration Day) at the Highland Folk Museum. I tend to shy away from photographing people, preferring landscapes and food to things that would have an opinion on how I took their photo – especially as i’m still getting to grips with the technical aspects of my DSLR!
The tutors, Robert and Susanna ran through some of the technical aspects and compositional aspects that we need to think about when doing portrait photography. I had a great day learning about all the different aspects of taking someone’s photo, and not being scared to use the manual mode on my camera!
Here are some of my favourite photos that I took of the model, Honor. They are not perfect by any means, and I haven’t edited them as I need to get to grips with Photoshop too!
