At the end of August, my brother and I had an overnight trip to Orkney. With just over 30 hours on the mainland, we had to strike a balance of touring some key tourist sites without tearing round like maniacs, and we started off with an afternoon on the west mainland.
I’ve written previously about a trip to Lybster Harbour, which has taken a star turn recently in featuring as a filming location for The Crown. However, the East Coast of Caithness is jam packed with more harbours, and after we visited Laidhay Croft Museum, we chose a beautifully day to visit Latheronwheel Harbour.
Situated on the A99 between Dunbeath and Wick in Caithness, it’s impossible to miss a striking thatched longhouse. It’s worth taking a stop at Laidhay Croft Museum!
