This year I will doing a new regular series of ‘New in my Kitchen’ posts. This year I hope to find lots of new products or gadgets I can incorporate into whatever I bake or make in the kitchen.
I had a nice little haul of some lovely foodie items in the New Year sales at the weekend, here’s what I purchased!
From TK Maxx:
Kuhn Rikon Wedge Serving Knife (£2.99)
I’m a fan of the Kuhn Rikon products (we have a few of their casserole dishes which have served us well) and this looks like a great tough little tool for cutting the first slice of cake, pie, tart or flan. It’s sturdy without being bulky and the serrated edge looks like it would be effective in cutting through multi-layer dishes like lasagnes.
Premier Spoon Rest (£2.99)
In the past I have made my own spoon rest using varnished flat rocks, but I really liked the curve and the bright red colour of the spoon rest.
Jamie Oliver Tullicherry Black Pepper Grinder (£3.99)
We already had a salt and pepper set from Jamie Oliver, so we saw this as a bargain for when our current pepper grinder runs out.
Jamie Olive Retro Baking dishes (£7.00)
I’m a sucker for anything retro and these were at the back of a bottom shelf in TK Maxx, such a bargain. As well as in the oven, these can be used on a stove top (which will come in handy when we go away in February where we have to use an AGA).
Leon: Family and Friends (£7.99)
I was given the Leon Breakfast and Brunch book as a birthday gift a couple of year back, so I was pleased to see this huge book on the TK Maxx shelves! The RRP is £25.00 (and is advertised on Amazon for £19.99) but there was no price on the book itself, so I was offered it at a price of £7.99 which was incredible. LEON prides itself on providing “good fast food” and all of the recipes seem brilliant, interesting and easy to recreate at home. There’s a index at the back including long lists of all the ‘free-from’ recipes – including low GI, low fat, wheat, gluten and dairy free recipes/ Another great thing about LEON is that there are lots of little jokes, beautiful pictures and illustrations – here is a brand that doesn’t take life too seriously! I’m especially looking forward to starting 2015 in healthy style by ‘cooking the books’ with this title.
Allegra McEvedy: Big Table, Busy Kitchen (£5.99)
Inspired by her mother’s handed down family recipe book which was tragically lost, the source of many happy meals and memories, Allegra created this collection of recipes for her own daughter. It’s a mighty tome of a book and it’s beautifully written, with lots of anecdotes and memories sitting alongside the recipes.
Lakeland
Alphabet Cutters (£4.99, reduced from £8.99)
I have been meaning to get some of these for ages for use on cakes and biscuits, and these were half price in the Lakeland sale.
What’s new in your kitchen?
Wowsers! What bargains!! Need to get me down to TK Maxx pronto 😉
I know, it’s always worth having a root around in there, as there’s always some kind of treasure to be found!
