In the summer I signed up to Bzzagent.co.uk (a site where you can get sent free stuff and leave reviews via Facebook, Twitter (or your blog as I am doing)! Today I am telling you about the new range of the Tesco Finest Single Origin Chocolate. I was sent two varieties to test as I wished, as well as some money off vouchers for bars in the full range on sale in Tesco.
The varieties were:
- Ecuadorian Milk (32%)
- Ecuadorian Dark (74%)
The arrival of these bars (100g each) also coincided with a fundraising bake off held at the office where I am currently temping, so my plan was to melt the dark chocolate as a smooth topping for a marble cake I had chosen to make. On first opening of the parcel, I was impressed by the quality of the cardboard encasing the chocolate. I liked both the designs on each and there was a small sticker which noted the kinds of flavours that I would taste within the chocolate.
Upon opening the cardboard up, there was a descriptive (if slightly Nigella-ish!) paragraph about how our senses should appreciate the touch, taste and smell of the chocolate. Below that there was a wheel with more information about the ‘notes’ within the chocolate. Normally I am quite sceptical about these kind of things, unless it’s a flavoured chocolate, chocolate is chocolate right? I actually found that I could appreciate the flavour of green tea when I had a slight nibble of one square.
The chocolate melted well into a glossy pool and was easy to spread on and push around the cake. I would use this chocolate again for a ganache perhaps, as it kept its gloss so well. The milk chocolate… well that’s just been nibbled by Mr B and I over the last few days when we’ve wanted a sweet treat.
Now for the cake recipe – again it was a BBC Good Food staple I chose: Chocolate Orange Marble loaf cake. I followed the recipe to the letter and you can see the below photos for a step-by-step guide.
